"We wish to confirm once more that the task of evangelizing all people constitutes the essential mission of the Church.... Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity."
Evangelii Nuntiandi, 14
Dear brothers and sisters of Sacred Heart Parish,
Evangelisation is an essential mission of the church. It is indeed crucial today that the work of evangelisation is present in the parish in an explicit way. We need to create more awareness and garner more participation and support from parishioners in forms of intercessory prayer, proclamation of the word and works of service.
We are aware that many of our parishioners would like to reach out and evangelise but do not know how or do not have the opportunity and the capacity to do so. As a response to this need in answering the call of evangelisation, the parish has formed a ministry solely for the purpose of evangelisation which will equip and inspire Catholics to evangelise in word and deed, by providing formation, training and mission opportunities.
In the coming months, the Mission Awareness team will be conducting information evenings on its mission and vision which will include training courses and mission exposures. With this, we hope that the parish will be equipped to “go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). This team will work closely with the PFPN core team of our parish especially in the formation and training of our PFPN coordinators.
Let us all respond to this call, to proclaim Christ to all people as we are members of the body of Christ and have been prepared to do so through the sacraments.
Monsignor Primus Jouil
Rector
"I sense the moment has come to commit all the Church's energies to a new evangelization.... No believer in Christ, no institution of the Church can avoid this supreme duty: to proclaim Christ to all peoples."
Redemptoris Missio, 3
"The lay faithful, precisely because they are members of the Church, have the vocation and mission of proclaiming the Gospel: they are prepared for this work by the sacraments of Christian initiation and by the gifts of the Holy Spirit...."
(Christifideles Laici, 33)
