We are called to inspire and equip Catholics to evangelize in word and deed, through training and mission opportunities. Our focus is on intercession, awareness, participation, support and networking.

Testimonies: Prayer Pledge Card II

"My prayer for 2 persons to come closer to Christ is showing signs of improvement for 1 of them.”

“I can’t see any result so far. But the encouragement of praying for them is never ceasing.”

“I have started through organizing rosary prayer at the person’s residence. I and the other family members prayed but the person opted not to pray together. It was difficult. However I don’t give up because I know the congregation is praying for me.”

“With the prayer pledge card I have been constantly reminded of my responsibility to witness Christ to others. I pray for the 2 persons everyday. I have become more compassionate and less judgmental . I begin to trust God more, that He will touch them…”

Testimonies - Prayer Pledge Cards

The Prayer Pledge Card Project was launched on 26th February 2011. Here are some updates. The following are feedback from some pledgers:

"Personally, I think it is a good motivator to spur Catholics to play their roles as godparents to pray for their godchildren."

"I handed my niece a pledge card on the first day itself. I pray for the conversion of her husband and two of her children. Last time I saw two of her children kept coming with her to church but not her husband."

"I have been praying 3 cards for 6 persons every morning that they may experience God's love."

"I pray for an elderly couple - wife sickly. Prayers offered on first Sunday every month (at mass). Talked to them at their home twice."

Movie Night @ SHC F2 on Saturday 26th March 2011 at 8.00pm

This biography of Father Damien, the Catholic priest who in 1873 volunteered for service on the eponymous Hawaiian leper colony where sufferers were relentlessly exiled to Molokai, a barren isle off the coast. There they lived in miserable surroundings, abandoned by the outside world. To alleviate their fate, Father Damien was the first priest to go to Molokai. His bishop's last words were that "he must not touch anyone." Even when Damien got sick himself, his energy did not abate, and he carried on working for the well-being of his "fellow lepers" to the end...

Mission Awareness Night

Mission Awareness Night - an introduction evening. Derek Chong stirred the crowd into reflecting on our call as Catholics to evangelise. He quoted Matthew 28:19-20 where we are all "sent" and therefore have the power; we have what it takes to "make disciples of all nations".

Letter from SHC Rector

"We wish to confirm once more that the task of evangelizing all people constitutes the essential mission of the Church.... Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity."
Evangelii Nuntiandi, 14

Dear brothers and sisters of Sacred Heart Parish,
Evangelisation is an essential mission of the church. It is indeed crucial today that the work of evangelisation is present in the parish in an explicit way. We need to create more awareness and garner more participation and support from parishioners in forms of intercessory prayer, proclamation of the word and works of service.
We are aware that many of our parishioners would like to reach out and evangelise but do not know how or do not have the opportunity and the capacity to do so. As a response to this need in answering the call of evangelisation, the parish has formed a ministry solely for the purpose of evangelisation which will equip and inspire Catholics to evangelise in word and deed, by providing formation, training and mission opportunities.
In the coming months, the Mission Awareness team will be conducting information evenings on its mission and vision which will include training courses and mission exposures. With this, we hope that the parish will be equipped to “go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). This team will work closely with the PFPN core team of our parish especially in the formation and training of our PFPN coordinators.
Let us all respond to this call, to proclaim Christ to all people as we are members of the body of Christ and have been prepared to do so through the sacraments.

Monsignor Primus Jouil
Rector

"I sense the moment has come to commit all the Church's energies to a new evangelization.... No believer in Christ, no institution of the Church can avoid this supreme duty: to proclaim Christ to all peoples."
Redemptoris Missio, 3

"The lay faithful, precisely because they are members of the Church, have the vocation and mission of proclaiming the Gospel: they are prepared for this work by the sacraments of Christian initiation and by the gifts of the Holy Spirit...."
(Christifideles Laici, 33)
